What is not gypsy moth?
- If you see a white, flying moth, it is not gypsy moth. Female gypsy moths are cream to white in color but do not fly.
- If you see silk tents or webs in the branches of trees. It is not gypsy moth. Newly hatched gypsy moth caterpillars do produce a thin silken thread that they use to surf the wind, but they do not have a central nest.
- If you find just one caterpillar, chances are it is not gypsy moth. Gypsy moth caterpillars usually occur by hundreds at a time.
- If you find a moth in your home (especially the kitchen) chances are it is not gypsy moth.
